The green sulfur bacteria are a family of obligately anaerobic photoautotrophic bacteria. Most closely related to the nonetheless distant Bacteroidetes, they're accordingly assigned their own phylum.
   Green sulfur bacteria are non-motile (except Chloroherpeton thalassium, which may glide)
